And another weekend has come and gone.. this weekend was nice in a low-key kinda way. Friday night MK had a bit of a "social gathering" with alcohol as the social lubricant. Otherwise I don't know how that group would have blended.. It was really odd.. sometimes I think that being here kind of forces you to be friends with people you wouldn't normally be friends with. Your standards for making friends changes a bit. It's more of a: "Oh you like rye? So do I! Let's be friends!" Well not that shallow but at the same time.. the way expat groups work is a little different from the norm.
So yes, we had a nice night. One of the guy's here has his mother visiting for an insanely long period of time. She's kind of fun actually and its neat to have a "mother-type" around but she is also the kind of woman who likes to dominate a conversation. What she was really interested in talking about was sex. It's not that I'm at all opposed to discussing that or anything related but it was such an odd group of people and the woman was asking such pointed questions... for example: "Jessica, have you ever been in a sexually fulfilling relationship? Explain what that was like" That was just the ice-breaker. Then she asked me about what I am looking for in my next relationship and told me that the fact that I mentioned a certain level of chemistry was dead wrong of me and I am setting myself up... or something like that. Who knows? Anyway we ended up talking about a lot of things, and despite the initial awkwardness.. it was cool. Sometimes being "forced" to share things.. can be a good thing.. sometimes.
Last night I went into the city to this kind of coffee house church thing. It was really laid back and I rather liked it. I'm not sure if I'll go again or not, but it was cool to check out. Then today I had a major sleep-in and went to the salon; hair, manicure/pedicure... and for the first time in ever, I didn't wreck my pedicure within 5 minutes of leaving the salon!
MK made dinner tonight for me and a cool couple at school. Salmon, mashed potatoes, vegetables.. it was SO good!
I like weekends like this one. I'm getting over the fact that I need to go out and be crazy in order for a weekend to be good. Sometimes laid back, slightly social, slightly quiet is a really nice mix. Not to say that there isn't room for wild and crazy ones either though...
So there you go. Two weekends left before I spend one in Canada!
